Evelyne

All ekkula bags are beautifully handcrafted by Evelyne, a talented artisan living in Central Uganda. Evelyne, a mother of two, successfully runs her business since 2019 after starting selling beaded jewelry to friends in University.

Evelyne personally crafts each bag, ensuring every piece is unique and of high quality. Her designs are inspired by global fashion trends, client custom orders, and her personal style. Using locally sourced plastic beads, Evelyne combines her love for art and fashion to create stunning, original handbags.

Evelyne's greatest motivation is her family, especially her autistic daughter, and the support from her loyal clients.

Her vision is to inspire other women and girls to start a business, to eventually establish a physical shop, as well as a workshop for behind-the-scenes visits and training, and creating environmentally friendly fashion.

Sophie & Felicitas

Sophie is a researcher, coffee lover, and colour addict. Wherever she goes, she collects quirky souvenirs that forever tie her to the experiences in a particular place.

For her research, she often travels to Uganda, where she indulges herself in the beauty, colours and vibrancy of the country. When she came across Evelyn’s beautiful handbags, she fell in love with their eccentric shape and colours.

So did Felicitas. She met Sophie at a party in Berlin, asking her where her handbag was from. Four weeks later, Sophie and Felicitas founded studio ekkula together.

With studio ekkula, we want to continue connecting people around the world through bold colours.

"ekkula" means "pearl" in the local language Luganda. It's a link to the pearls out of which the bags are made, as well as Uganda's nickname as "the pearl of Africa"
